New Delhi, August 3: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has targeted the Congress party, asserting that the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha has been given unprecedented opportunities to speak. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the dignity of the House, stating that the Congress party fails to engage in discussions on significant bills in Parliament.
In a media interaction, Rijiju noted that two important bills were passed in Parliament. He expressed disappointment that while members supporting the government discussed these bills, the opposition remained silent and only created disturbances. He accused Congress of ignoring crucial issues and attempting to seize upon trivial matters, labeling them as a “cockroach public party.” He claimed they are entangled in internal conflicts and struggling to carve out political space.
Rijiju highlighted the passage of two key bills: one to increase the number of Supreme Court judges in the Lok Sabha and another concerning MSMEs in the Rajya Sabha. He mentioned that no opposition members were willing to participate in these discussions. Despite his appeals, including a request to Mallikarjun Kharge to guide Congress MPs, he noted that there seems to be no one in the party capable of doing so. He lamented that Congress MPs are completely lost, lacking a leader to steer them in the right direction.
He reiterated that they have repeatedly urged the opposition to engage in discussions, but to no avail. The most unfortunate aspect, he said, is that there is no one left in Congress who can effectively communicate with its MPs.
BJP MP Madan Rathore added that the opposition lacks genuine issues. He pointed out that the MSME bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha, with members from the NCP and other parties voicing their opinions. The bill has been approved, and the opposition could have offered suggestions or amendments but failed to respond even to the written amendments submitted.
He concluded that it appears the opposition is not genuinely interested in the House’s proceedings, as they seem only capable of creating chaos.
In response to Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge’s remarks, BJP MP Dinesh Sharma stated, “They are experts in corruption. They show no concern for students, youth, or employment. Their sole focus is corruption. This unfortunate statement should be avoided.”
