
London, March 15: South Africa triumphed over New Zealand by 7 wickets in the first T20 match played on Sunday. For Keshav Maharaj, the left-arm spinner leading the team, this match was particularly significant as it marked his 50th T20 appearance for South Africa.
Maharaj became the 15th player to reach this milestone for the national team, claiming 50 wickets across his 50 matches.
The record for the most T20 matches played for South Africa belongs to David Miller, who has participated in 137 matches. Quinton de Kock follows with 110 matches, while Reeza Hendricks holds third place with 90 appearances. JP Duminy and Kagiso Rabada round out the top five with 81 and 79 matches, respectively.
Maharaj’s 50th T20 match was a remarkable achievement both as a captain and a player. He bowled 4 overs, conceding 25 runs and taking 2 wickets. With this victory, South Africa took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, with Maharaj stepping in as captain in the absence of Aiden Markram.
