New Delhi, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : International players Devdutt Padikkal and Mohammed Siraj will don the South Zone jersey in the Duleep Trophy final. The match is set to take place against East Zone starting September 6.
Both players recently participated in a Test series against Sri Lanka, where India emerged victorious with a 1-0 win. Padikkal had an impressive series, scoring a total of 328 runs across two matches, including two centuries. His performance earned him the title of ‘Player of the Series.’
Siraj also showcased his skills during the series, securing four wickets. While both players have been selected for the final, it remains unclear who they are replacing in the squad. According to ESPN Cricinfo, Vaibhav Suryaanshi, Ishan Kishan, and Tilak Varma are regular members of India’s T20 team but may still participate in the Duleep Trophy final.
The final is scheduled to conclude on September 10, just three days before India begins a T20 International series against Afghanistan. Despite the tight schedule, there is optimism that both Padikkal and Siraj will take the field for the final.
Tilak Varma recently scored a remarkable century in the semi-final against North Zone and expressed his eagerness to play in the final. He stated, “I want to play in the Duleep Trophy final. Our match just ended, and the first T20 against Afghanistan is on September 13. I have time to play the final, and after that, we have a two-day break. If I join the team on September 11, I can practice for a day and be ready for the match.”
Tilak captained South Zone in the semi-final, while Ishan Kishan led East Zone, with Vaibhav Suryaanshi serving as East Zone’s vice-captain.
