Keralas Operation Storm Intensifies: Chief Minister Calls for Inter-State Cooperation to Combat Drug Networks

Thiruvananthapuram, June 24: Kerala’s Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has taken significant steps to strengthen the ongoing anti-drug campaign, ‘Operation Storm.’ He has appealed for increased cooperation from neighboring states to dismantle inter-state drug trafficking networks.

In letters addressed to the Chief Ministers of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, Satheesan emphasized the necessity of real-time intelligence sharing, joint operations, and coordinated strategies to effectively combat drug abuse.

He also proposed a high-level meeting to develop a unified action plan. Under the leadership of State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, discussions will involve the state police chief, tactical commanders, and senior officials from the police and home departments of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. This collaboration aims to enhance efforts against drug trafficking across state lines.

‘Operation Storm’ is a major statewide initiative by the Kerala government and police, aimed at dismantling organized drug networks and protecting youth from substance abuse. The campaign is structured around three main components.

The first component, Storm Strike, involves strict actions, raids, and operations based on intelligence shared between the police and excise departments. This initiative targets hidden drug networks, sales via the dark web, and inter-state trafficking.

The second component, Storm Warrior, focuses on large-scale awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and communities. The third component, Storm Care, provides treatment and counseling services for individuals struggling with addiction, helping them reintegrate into mainstream society.

In his message, Chief Minister Satheesan stated that senior officials from the police and home departments of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry will convene soon to strengthen the joint strategy against drug trafficking.
