Thiruvananthapuram, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : Divya S. Ayyar, the Principal Director of the Local Self-Government Department in Kerala, has dismissed rumors of conflict with Secretary TV Anupama regarding jurisdictional issues. In a statement on social media, Ayyar stated that she has never engaged in rivalry or factionalism with anyone.
In her Instagram post, she emphasized her commitment to her duties, stating she has always acted according to clear directives. Ayyar labeled reports of disagreements among senior officials as fabricated.
The controversy arose amid differing initiatives for waste management led by both officials. Disputes reportedly surfaced regarding the “Nirmalam Puthu Yugam Clean Kerala” program and the “IC 100 Challenge.” These initiatives were announced amid ongoing discussions about the roles assigned to the Secretary and Principal Director. The “Nirmalam” program was launched under Anupama’s leadership.
The state government has described it as a public participation campaign, part of its 100-day action plan. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan inaugurated the initiative on October 2, envisioning sustainable waste management activities until 2031. On September 30, Anupama issued an order detailing the responsibilities of various officials under the “Nirmalam” program.
Reports suggest that Ayyar was dissatisfied with her role in this program and expressed her concerns to the minister. Sources indicated that she was only a member of the state-level coordination committee.
On the same day as the “Nirmalam” launch, Ayyar announced the “IC 100 Challenge” through a separate order, leading to speculation about a rift between the senior officials and the possibility of the department managing two distinct initiatives. There were also claims that Anupama had no involvement in the “IC 100 Challenge.” However, the department maintains that these are separate programs.
Ayyar noted that the only criticism she has received is that she loves, embraces, and appreciates people.
