Kochi, March 30: Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala reiterated the party’s longstanding accusation that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the CPI(M) are involved in a ‘pact’ ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for April 9.
Chennithala stated that there is indeed an agreement between the BJP and CPI(M), allegedly orchestrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. “We have exposed this, and people are widely discussing the issue,” he said.
Notably, the Leader of the Opposition (LOP) VD Satheesan has consistently raised this allegation alongside senior Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. They claim that a secret understanding exists between the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the BJP concerning nearly ten assembly seats in Kerala.
Chennithala accused both parties of conspiring to prevent Congress from regaining power in the state. He pointed out that a similar agreement was in place during the 2021 elections. “Prime Minister Modi wanted a ‘Congress-free India,’ while the Chief Minister aimed to keep Congress out of power. Thus, these two ideas are converging in this election. The people have understood this,” he added.
It is important to note that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) last held power in Kerala from 2011 to 2016, after which the LDF won the 2016 assembly elections.
Chennithala expressed confidence in the UDF’s victory in the upcoming elections. “We are fully confident that this alleged pact between CPI(M) and BJP will not succeed, and we will return to power. The UDF will come back with a good majority, and we will form the government. We are certain of this,” he stated.
In response to Congress’s allegations, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan questioned the alleged connections between opposition MP Satheesan and the RSS.
