New Delhi, February 24: KC Venugopal, the General Secretary of the Congress party, has condemned the police action against leaders and activists of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC). This condemnation follows the arrests made by Delhi police during a protest at the AI Summit.

In a post shared on the social media platform X, Venugopal emphasized that peaceful protests are a fundamental aspect of democracy and should not be viewed as criminal acts.

He stated, “We strongly condemn the detention of IYC President and activists by the Delhi police in connection with the protest at the AI Summit. The government has forgotten that protests are the soul of democracy, not a crime.”

Venugopal further noted that the IYC activists bravely highlighted the Prime Minister’s policies without inciting any violence. He called the detentions completely illegal and demanded their immediate release along with the withdrawal of all charges.

Earlier, the Youth Congress appealed to the public for support, asserting that this issue transcends party lines and is fundamentally linked to the nature of democracy itself.

In response to the police action, the Youth Congress stated that an emergency meeting is underway at the IYC headquarters regarding the illegal actions against their activists and the arrest of the IYC President. They declared their unity and determination to protect the democratic spirit of India.

The Youth Congress remarked that the unlawful detention of their President by the Delhi police indicates that a peaceful protest has disturbed the Prime Minister and the BJP. “This fight is no longer just ours; it belongs to the people. Everyone must come together to decide what kind of democracy they want,” they asserted.
