Assam Chief Minister Thanks PM Modi for Revamped Majbat Railway Station

Guwahati, July 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday for inaugurating the newly renovated Majbat Railway Station.

He highlighted that this historic station, over 117 years old, has been equipped with modern passenger amenities under the Central Government’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).

In a post on the social media platform X, Sarma noted that the station’s redevelopment reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening railway infrastructure in the Northeast.

“I am thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the revamped Majbat Railway Station. This 117-year-old station has been modernized with advanced facilities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. A total of 50 stations across Assam are being upgraded as part of this initiative,” he wrote.

Located in Udalguri district, Majbat Railway Station is one of the oldest railway stations in the region. The upgraded station features enhanced passenger facilities, modern infrastructure, and improved amenities to provide a better travel experience.

This redevelopment is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a flagship project of the central government aimed at modernizing railway stations across the country. The scheme focuses on improving passenger amenities, accessibility, and infrastructure while incorporating local architectural features.

Established around 1909 during the British era, Majbat Railway Station has been a vital transport hub for over a century. Situated in the current Udalguri district, it played a crucial role in connecting the tea-producing areas of Northern Assam to major commercial centers, facilitating the movement of tea, timber, agricultural products, and passengers.

Its strategic location has also strengthened connectivity between the state’s remote areas and the rest of the country. For decades, this station has evolved into a significant socio-economic lifeline for the people of Majbat and surrounding regions, enhancing access to trade, education, and healthcare.
