Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Campaigns for Congress Candidate Umesh Meti in Bagalkot By-Election

Mumbai, March 31: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah continued his vigorous campaign for the Bagalkot Assembly by-election for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.

He participated in an election rally held in Muguloli village, where he launched a booklet titled ‘Pragatiya Pakshinota.’ This publication highlights the developmental work of former Karnataka minister H.Y. Meti. Additionally, he campaigned in support of Congress candidate Umesh Meti.

Present at the event were Minister R.B. Timmapur, former Legislative Council Chairman S.R. Patil, MLA Yashwantaraigouda Patil, Humpangouda Badarli, Vijayanand Kashappanavar, and former minister Ajaykumar Sarnayak.

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that Umesh Meti is receiving overwhelming support from the public in the Bagalkot by-election. He noted that the atmosphere in the election areas is favorable for the Congress party. H.Y. Meti has worked tirelessly for the development of Bagalkot and served all sections of society.

Siddaramaiah expressed confidence in Umesh Meti’s victory, stating that he has been fielded as the Congress candidate following the passing of his father. He also mentioned that party member wrestler Sadiq has been persuaded to withdraw from the election in the Davanagere South constituency. Furthermore, Minister Jameer Ahmed Khan will also participate in this campaign.

In response to the BJP’s accusation that the Chief Minister is campaigning vigorously in Bagalkot out of fear of defeat, Siddaramaiah countered that it is actually the BJP leaders who are fearful of losing.

He emphasized that it has been a tradition in the Congress party to grant tickets to family members of deceased legislators, and this tradition has been upheld in both Davanagere and Bagalkot.

Regarding comments made by BJP leader Chalwadi Narayanaswamy about the Chief Minister’s position, Siddaramaiah stated that he is fully committed to the decisions of the party leadership and declined to respond to BJP statements.

Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of failing to take steps to establish a medical college in Bagalkot during their tenure and neglecting to prioritize compensation for farmers under the ‘Upper Krishna Project.’ He affirmed that H.Y. Meti’s contributions to Bagalkot’s development are unparalleled.
