Bengaluru, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Wednesday that the Karnataka Assembly session has been extended by one day to facilitate an in-depth discussion on the worsening drought conditions in the state.
Speaking to the media at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar highlighted that more than 200 taluks are facing severe drought, and the situation has become critical. He noted that the intensity of the drought has escalated, prompting the need for urgent discussions among legislators.
Shivakumar emphasized that both ministers and the deputy chief minister will officially respond to the questions and suggestions raised by lawmakers during the proceedings.
Regarding the proposal to send a multi-party delegation to Delhi, Shivakumar stated that leaders from all political parties have agreed on this initiative. The delegation aims to discuss drought relief measures and seek assistance from the central government.
In addition, Shivakumar expressed confidence that the Congress party will win all four seats in the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections. He mentioned that the party has already selected strong candidates a year in advance and is committed to working together for success.
After a meeting with ministers and party legislators concerning the elections, Shivakumar spoke to the media near the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office. He noted that the election announcement for the four assembly seats had been made, and discussions with legislators were ongoing due to the current assembly session.
On his planned visit to Delhi, Shivakumar revealed that he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a meeting. He indicated that the multi-party delegation would be taken to Delhi as soon as an appointment is secured.
