K.C. Venugopal Demands Clarification from Kerala CM on Alleged Secret Meetings with BJP Leaders

Thiruvananthapuram, April 7: K.C. Venugopal, the General Secretary of the AICC, launched a sharp attack on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday, accusing him of alleged “secret meetings” with top BJP leaders. In an open letter, he raised ten questions regarding purported behind-the-scenes deals and governance issues ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala, where 140 new legislators are set to be elected on Thursday.

Venugopal began his allegations by questioning Vijayan’s private meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in Delhi, which reportedly occurred without the presence of any officials. He also referenced a breakfast meeting hosted by the Chief Minister for Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Kerala House, again noting the absence of officials.

He further inquired whether Vijayan had held any meetings with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari outside Delhi and if such discussions were part of an undisclosed agreement with the BJP-led central government.

The Congress leader stated that this letter reflects public concerns after a decade of LDF governance. He alleged that these meetings indicate a secret political agreement, even as the Chief Minister appears to publicly oppose the central government.

Venugopal also questioned the state government’s decision to advance the PM Sree scheme despite strong objections from CPI, a major ally of the LDF. He claimed that during the alleged agreement with the BJP, the Chief Minister kept his coalition partners in the dark, raising concerns about transparency within the ruling front.

Regarding labor reforms, Venugopal accused the government of quietly implementing central labor codes without consulting allies and significantly increasing trade union registration fees. He asked whether these decisions signal a shift away from the left’s “worker-friendly” ideology.

The letter also revisits sensitive legal and corruption-related issues. Venugopal pointed to repeated delays in hearings related to the SNC Lavalin case involving Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, raising questions about potential political interference. Additionally, he questioned the investigation delays in the Exalogic Solutions case and the status of Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions against the Chief Minister’s son.

In another politically significant allegation, Venugopal raised concerns about the continuous security provided to ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar, who has been accused of links to RSS leaders and alleged involvement in the Thrissur Pooram controversy.

Venugopal also sought details regarding an alleged meeting between Chief Minister Vijayan and BJP leaders mediated by spiritual guru ‘Shri M’ in the state capital.
