Amritsar, April 14: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has achieved a significant breakthrough by dismantling a gang involved in the illegal smuggling of arms across the border. Authorities have arrested three suspects and seized six advanced pistols. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav shared this information on social media platform X.
According to the Punjab DGP, initial investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with smugglers based in Pakistan through social media platforms. They were not only assisting in the illegal arms trade but also supplying these weapons to criminal elements across Punjab. The firearms were intercepted before they could reach their intended recipients.
An FIR has been registered at the Cantonment Police Station in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Arms Act. The investigation is ongoing to identify more suspects and dismantle the entire network.
The DGP stated that the Punjab Police is committed to a zero-tolerance policy against the smuggling of illegal arms, organized crime, and anti-national activities to ensure the safety and security of Punjab.
Earlier, on April 8, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police had also uncovered a module involved in the smuggling of illegal arms from across the border. In that operation, three suspects were arrested, and a minor was taken into custody. During the search, seven advanced pistols, twelve live cartridges, and a motorcycle were seized. These suspects were also linked to smugglers in Pakistan via social media. A case was registered against them at the Cheharata Police Station in Amritsar. The police are actively investigating to trace and eliminate the entire smuggling network.
