Shimla, April 14: The Students Federation of India (SFI) condemned the brutal murder of 19-year-old Sia Guleria in Mandi district on Tuesday and called for strict action against the perpetrators. The SFI has urged the state government to ensure the swift arrest of those responsible.
In their statement, the SFI expressed, “We strongly denounce the heinous murder of our comrade Sia Guleria, an SFI activist in Himachal Pradesh, and demand an immediate investigation into this case. Sia was attacked in broad daylight while on her way to college by two individuals on a motorcycle, who assaulted her with weapons, leading to her tragic death. The identified assailants were reportedly under the influence of drugs and are known to be addicts.”
The organization criticized the Congress-led state government, stating that this incident reflects its failure to protect its citizens, despite promises of women’s safety. They emphasized that the rising influence of drugs among youth cannot be viewed in isolation but should be seen as part of a larger issue involving mafia connections and the ruling class.
Furthermore, the SFI highlighted the alarming increase in crimes against women in India, as reported by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Although data post-2022 is unavailable, recent incidents of rape, murder, and harassment of female students across the country illustrate a growing hostile environment that threatens women’s existence and progress in public, institutional, and domestic spheres.
They called for proactive measures to ensure the safety of female students in the state. “We demand justice for Sia by ensuring a thorough investigation and harsh penalties for the criminals. We stand against crimes targeting female students and call for organized interventions to make our campuses and public spaces peaceful, healthy, and safe for everyone.”
