Jaipur, August 10: Jagat Prakash Nadda, former national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party and current Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, participated in various events in Jaipur ahead of Independence Day. His presence reinforced the commitment to patriotism, service, and nation-building. Nadda paid homage to the immortal martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for the motherland by laying a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial.
Following this, Nadda met with senior military officials at the BJP state office. He flagged off ten new blood collection and transport buses, which will play a crucial role in strengthening the blood collection system in the state and ensuring timely blood availability for those in need.
Later, he joined the Tiranga Yatra from Albert Hall to Badi Chaupar, addressing the crowd along the way. The event was attended by prominent leaders, including Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, State President Madan Rathore, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, and State In-Charge Radha Mohan Das Agrawal.
Nadda began his address with slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai,’ honoring the sacred land of Rajasthan, known for its heroes and warriors. He emphasized that the Tiranga, or national flag, is a symbol of the sacrifices made by millions of citizens. This Tiranga Yatra serves as a tribute to those brave souls who dedicated everything for the nation.
He stated that India has not only gained freedom but has also restored the world’s largest democracy, referring to it as the ‘Mother of Democracy.’ The Tiranga Yatra is not merely a flag procession; it embodies the emotions and energy that inspire 1.4 billion citizens towards patriotism, dedication, and the will to sacrifice for the nation.
Nadda shed light on the history of the national flag, noting that it was constitutionally adopted on July 22, 1947. The first flag was hoisted during the Swadeshi movement in 1906 at Parsee Bagan Square, Kolkata. In 1921, Pingali Venkayya presented the dream of the Tiranga to Mahatma Gandhi at the Congress session in Bejawada (Vijayawada), featuring three colors and a spinning wheel.
He explained that the flag was finalized in July 1947 with the inclusion of the Ashoka Chakra. The saffron color symbolizes courage and sacrifice, white represents truth and peace, green signifies prosperity, and the Ashoka Chakra in the center inspires change, progress, and continuous advancement.
Nadda highlighted that during the 2022 Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi transformed the Tiranga into a public movement through the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, leading to numerous flag hoisting events across the country. This initiative has become a vibrant symbol of India’s unity, diversity, and integrity.
Mentioning recent legislation, Nadda stated that the ‘Prevention of Insults to National Honor Amendment Act 2026’ has further strengthened the respect for national symbols. The original law from 1971 penalized disrespect towards the Constitution, national anthem, and national flag, but due to political appeasement, the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ was excluded. The new amendment ensures that disrespect towards any of these symbols will not be tolerated.
He praised Prime Minister Modi’s efforts to liberate India from colonial legacies and promote ‘Indianization,’ noting that Rajpath has been renamed to Kartavya Path, and statues of historical figures have been installed at significant locations.
Nadda also discussed India’s economic progress, stating that 12-13 years ago, the country was labeled as ‘Fragile Five’ with policy paralysis. Today, under Modi’s leadership, India is recognized as a strong economy globally. Despite global economic downturns and conflicts, institutions like the World Bank and IMF affirm India’s bright future, predicting GDP growth rates of 6.6% in 2027 and 7.2% in 2028.
In conclusion, Nadda urged everyone to uphold the honor of the Tiranga and to move forward with the resolve to build a self-reliant and great India under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
