The Election Commission of India has released the schedule for special summary revision of voter lists, with the final list due on January 4, 2027.

New Delhi, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has unveiled the schedule for the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of voter lists, marking January 1, 2027, as the eligibility date. The final voter list will be published on January 4, 2027.
In a letter sent to Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) across 17 states and union territories, the ECI indicated that areas currently undergoing or recently completing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will have their SSR schedule announced at a later date.
States such as Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, the National Capital Territory of Delhi, Odisha, Sikkim, Tripura, and Telangana fall under this category.
The official communication noted that Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh have yet to initiate the SIR process. The ECI plans to announce the voter list revision schedule for these regions at an appropriate time, considering weather conditions.
According to the SSR program, the rationalization and reorganization of polling stations will be completed by November 2. An integrated draft voter list will be published on November 12.
The ECI stated that claims and objections related to the SSR will be resolved by December 28, leading up to the publication of the final voter list on January 4.
The letter, issued on October 15, was addressed to CEOs in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
It emphasized that the commission has initiated a special campaign to include names of eligible voters, particularly those who are first-time voters, as per directives issued on September 29, 2026.
The SSR aims to facilitate the inclusion of eligible voters’ names based on the January 1, 2027, eligibility date, as well as to accept applications for three other eligibility dates in 2027: April 1, July 1, and October 1.
The commission clarified its stance on the use of Aadhaar numbers, stating that applicants may voluntarily provide their Aadhaar numbers on Forms 6 and 8. However, applications for inclusion in the voter list will not be rejected solely for failing to provide this information, nor will any entries be removed from the voter list on this basis.
