Hangzhou, July 24: Three-time Olympic champion Kimberly Rhode has secured her 27th World Cup title. During the ISSF World Cup in Hangzhou, the United States clinched both the first and second positions in the women’s skeet event.
The 47-year-old American athlete maintained a lead throughout the final, defeating her teammate Samantha Simonton 34-32 to win the gold medal. This victory marks her 41st World Cup medal.
China’s Che Yufei earned the bronze with 28 hits, marking her second medal at the Shooting World Cup. Meanwhile, Jiang Yiting, who topped the qualification round with 123 hits and is a bronze medalist from the Paris 2024 Olympics, finished fifth after losing in a tiebreaker. Her compatriot Jiang Chaoyu placed seventh.
In the second session of the day, Liu Jianlin, Jiang Yiting’s partner for the mixed team event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, secured a bronze medal in the men’s skeet competition with 29 hits, adding another medal for China.
In the women’s 50-meter rifle three positions event, Britain’s Seonaid McIntosh won gold in a thrilling final, narrowly defeating China’s Han Jiayu by just 0.3 points. Han had maintained a lead after both the kneeling and prone stages, but McIntosh delivered an outstanding performance in the standing stage, scoring a total of 362.6 points to edge out Han, who scored 362.3 points. Norway’s Jeanette Heg Duestad took home the bronze with 347.6 points, while China’s Zhang Liuyan finished fourth.
The men’s skeet title was won by Qatar’s Rashid Saleh Al-Athba, who delivered an almost flawless performance. After hitting his first 34 targets, Al-Athba missed only his final shot, finishing with 35 hits. He matched the world record and defeated Spain’s Jose Maria Mielgo Moneo by one target. Peru’s Nicolas Pacheco Espinosa finished in fourth place.
The Hangzhou World Cup will continue until July 28, with medal events for the women’s 10-meter air pistol and men’s 25-meter rapid-fire pistol scheduled for Friday.
