Patna, June 23: The death of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari in an alleged police encounter in Bhojpur, Bihar, has sparked a wave of statements from various political leaders. While several NDA leaders are calling for an impartial investigation, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi appears to be defending the police’s actions.
On Tuesday, Manjhi asserted that Bharat Tiwari was not a revolutionary, claiming that individuals with casteist mindsets are supporting him. He noted that Tiwari had previously been arrested for criminal offenses. In a post on the social media platform X, Manjhi wrote, “When a Dalit is encountered, it’s said ‘a Naxalite was killed’; when a Muslim is encountered, it’s claimed ‘a terrorist was killed.’ Yet, these same people are questioning the encounter of Bharat Tiwari. The real question is, where did Tiwari get the illegal pistol?”
Manjhi further questioned the motives behind the political discourse surrounding this criminal incident. He emphasized that the country should operate under the Constitution, not under the threat of illegal firearms. He reiterated that Tiwari was not a revolutionary and had a history of criminal involvement.
In a sarcastic tone, he remarked, “The Lashkar is yours, the Sardar is yours; you can write lies as truths because the newspaper is yours.” Previously, he had justified the police’s actions, stating that if an individual stands before the police armed, they have no choice but to act.
Manjhi clarified that persistent questioning of the police undermines law and order and negatively impacts the morale of law enforcement personnel. Notably, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has ordered a judicial inquiry to ensure transparency in this incident.
