Ranchi, August 17: A significant victory for student protesters in Jharkhand was achieved on Monday evening when the state government announced the cancellation of the SSC-CGL exam, responding to the protesters’ primary demand. Upon hearing the news, students gathered at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi erupted in joy, congratulating each other and celebrating the moment.
The atmosphere at the protest site shifted dramatically following the announcement. Students, who had been on hunger strikes and protests for an extended period, displayed visible happiness. Many were seen dancing with joy. The crowd chanted slogans and shared sweets to express their delight, declaring the government’s decision a major victory in their struggle.
Protest leaders emphasized that their fight extends beyond just the cancellation of one exam. They aim to establish a recruitment process that ensures fairness for all eligible candidates. They also called on the government to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into alleged irregularities in recruitment exams and to take action against those responsible.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the cancellation after a special cabinet meeting, revealing that shocking facts emerged during the SIT and CID investigations. Indications of collusion among various agencies were also found. The government has pledged to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams held since 2014. Additionally, a committee led by IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal will be formed to suggest necessary reforms in the examination system. The government has also invited public suggestions for improving the examination process.
The protesting students stated that the decision to cancel the SSC-CGL exam is a result of their prolonged struggle. They expressed gratitude to the government but urged for swift resolutions to their remaining demands. The atmosphere at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium remained vibrant late into the evening, transforming from a site of protest to a celebration of victory.
