Bengaluru, July 2: The Karnataka unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) has accused election officials of violating guidelines during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Ramnagar. Instead of conducting door-to-door verification of voters, officials allegedly gathered residents in a community hall, contravening the Election Commission’s directives. The party has called for strict action against those responsible.
In a statement released by the office of Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy, the party claimed that booth-level officers (BLOs) failed to verify voter details at homes and distribute enumeration forms. Instead, they assembled residents in a community hall in Ward No. 23 of Tipu Nagar, Ramnagar.
JD(S) stated that there has been a complete disregard for the Election Commission’s rules in Ramnagar. Booth-level officers are mandated to verify voter details at each household and distribute enumeration forms. However, they turned the process into a ‘SIR fair’ by gathering everyone in a welfare hall in Ward No. 23. This is a blatant mockery of democracy.
The party further alleged that officials violated the Election Commission’s guidelines and demanded immediate intervention from the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka and the Election Commission of India.
The statement emphasized that immediate and strict action should be taken against these corrupt officials who are violating electoral rules and acting arbitrarily. JD(S) also urged the Election Commission to take action against these alleged irregularities and suspend any officials found guilty.
These allegations arise amid ongoing voter list revisions (SIR) across Karnataka ahead of the upcoming elections. The party has also shared a purported video showing officials assigned to conduct door-to-door SIR and distribute census forms organizing events in a dharamshala in Ramnagar while allegedly modifying voter details.
