Japan Highlights Indias Key Role in Indo-Pacific Security

New Delhi, May 26: Amid rising geopolitical tensions and global security challenges, Japan’s Press Secretary and official spokesperson, Toshihiro Kitamura, emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s significant role in stabilizing and strengthening security in the Indo-Pacific region. He expressed appreciation for the Indian government’s commitment, particularly under Prime Minister Modi, to collaborate with Japan.

In an interview with a news agency, Kitamura shared insights on the increasing geopolitical strains and challenges to global energy security. He stated, “First and foremost, I would like to stress the importance of establishing a sustainable supply chain for essential minerals and securing energy supplies. We have announced our commitment to promote the Indo-Pacific energy security initiative. We wish to continue this type of cooperation among the four countries to provide solid support to the region.”

Regarding PM Modi’s role in enhancing the security situation in the Indo-Pacific, Kitamura remarked, “India is a very important partner for Japan in making the Indo-Pacific free and open. In this regard, we welcome the Indian government’s commitment, especially under Prime Minister Modi, to work with the Japanese government. We are very pleased to continue our cooperation with the Indian government based on the joint statement between our two countries for the next ten years.”

On the efforts by the Quad to strengthen maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific, he noted, “Maritime communication lines are crucial for both India and Japan. Ensuring free navigation is also essential for both nations. In today’s meeting, we initiated two types of cooperation: one is the Quad Maritime Domain Awareness Initiative, and the other is Indo-Pacific Maritime Surveillance Cooperation. Through this initiative, we aim to work closely with the Indian government to achieve tangible results and ensure stability and free navigation in the region.”
