New Delhi, May 26: The Supreme Court has expressed serious concerns regarding the increasing number of devotees at the Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan. During a hearing on Tuesday, the court emphasized the need for innovative solutions to ensure the safety and convenience of the worshippers.
Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi stressed the importance of formulating a comprehensive development plan for the temple premises and surrounding areas.
The court pointed out that the narrow lanes leading to the temple and limited space could pose significant challenges in the future. It is crucial to implement effective crowd management strategies to prevent accidents and enhance safety.
The Supreme Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government and the temple management committee to collaborate on a detailed development report. This plan should include widening the roads around the temple, improving public transport, creating shelters for devotees, and providing essential facilities such as drinking water and toilets. Additionally, the court highlighted the need for emergency exit routes and special provisions for senior citizens and women.
Furthermore, Additional Solicitor General K.M. Nataraj informed the court that the appointment of four Goswamis to the temple management committee was conducted fairly. Applications were invited, and interviews were held to ensure representation from both major groups, Shayan Bhog and Raj Bhog.
The Supreme Court acknowledged the inclusion of Rajat Goswami and Shailendra Goswami from the Shayan Bhog group, as well as Gopesh Goswami and Himanshu Goswami from the Raj Bhog group. These members will provide suggestions to enhance the temple’s traditional religious practices, worship methods, and daily operations.
The court also mentioned that the committee could propose timings for the temple’s opening and closing. Additionally, it instructed the regulation of uncontrolled commercial activities along the routes leading to the temple to improve facilities for devotees.
The Supreme Court clarified that maintaining the temple’s religious traditions while implementing modern facilities and better management should be the top priority for ensuring the safety of the devotees.
