Jannik Sinner Breaks Djokovics Record at Miami Open with Third Round Victory

Miami, March 24: Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner has made history at the Miami Open. He secured a decisive victory against Corentin Moutet, winning 6-1, 6-4. This win allowed Sinner to set a new record of 26 consecutive sets won at the ATP Masters 1000 level, surpassing the previous record held by Serbian legend Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic had held the record for winning 24 consecutive sets at the ATP Masters 1000. Earlier in the tournament, Sinner matched Djokovic’s record with a win in the second round. After the match, Sinner expressed satisfaction with his form and emphasized the importance of maintaining focus in each match.

Sinner’s impressive streak began last November at the Paris Masters, where he won the title without dropping a set. He has continued this strong performance into March, showcasing his skills at the Indian Wells Open as well. According to ATP reports, with his two victories in Miami, Sinner has now won 13 consecutive Masters 1000 matches.

Next, he will face American rising star Alex Michelsen, who advanced to the next round after defeating Alejandro Tabilo. Sinner aims to become the first player since Roger Federer in 2017 to achieve the ‘Sunshine Double.’ In terms of rankings, Sinner is closing in on World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, who faced defeat against Sebastian Korda in the third round and has been eliminated from the tournament.

In another match, American Frances Tiafoe defeated defending champion Jacob Faria in a tough contest, winning 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(11). This marks Tiafoe’s fifth appearance in Miami and his first fourth-round showing since 2022. The world No. 20 will next compete against French player Terence Atmane, who triumphed over Canadian tennis player Felix Auger-Aliassime with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
