Srinagar, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Jammu and Kashmir’s Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing executed multiple raids across South Kashmir on Sunday as part of an investigation into terrorism-related activities. The operation targeted several districts, including Kulgam and Shopian.
Officials indicated that the raids were conducted with assistance from other agencies, and further details are pending. The CIK, a specialized unit of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, has intensified its operations to dismantle terror networks, radicalization modules, and funding channels.
These recent actions in Shopian and Kulgam underscore the CIK’s strategic focus on combating terrorism. The unit is particularly targeting networks that utilize hidden messaging applications for communication.
Earlier this year, the CIK executed coordinated raids in six districts, including Budgam, Awantipora, Pulwama, Kupwara, Shopian, and Srinagar. The agency revealed that local suspects were using high-security encrypted apps to maintain contact with cross-border terrorist handlers. During the raids, digital devices and communication logs were seized to map these communication lines.
In July 2026, the CIK successfully dismantled a recruitment cell of Jaish-e-Mohammed, a local sleeper cell module managed from across the border, which operated in Pulwama, Ganderbal, Srinagar, and Budgam.
The CIK targeted ten specific locations to intercept a gang actively receiving instructions from a cross-border commander. The focus was on preventing local youth from being recruited into active sleeper cells supported by terror networks across the Line of Control (LoC).
Additionally, the CIK’s interstate and jail network intelligence operations have disrupted communications linked to prisoners in Anantnag District Jail, as well as locations in Kulgam, Udhampur, and Jammu city. Following the detection of suspicious technical signatures from within the jail, the CIK issued coordinated search warrants. Several mobile phones, SIM cards, and tablets connected to external networks were recovered during these operations.
