Srinagar, August 1: On July 31, a terrorist attack in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir resulted in the tragic deaths of two laborers from Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti have both condemned this attack.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Lieutenant Governor stated that he spoke with DGP Nalin Prabhat and top security officials following the brutal terrorist attack in Kulgam. He expressed strong condemnation of this cowardly act and directed security forces to intensify their operations to eliminate the terrorists.
He mentioned that the Jammu and Kashmir police and security forces have cordoned off the area and initiated operations to bring the perpetrators to justice. One injured laborer from Chhattisgarh was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. Sinha extended his heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. He emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the entire nation stand with these families.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the killing of the two laborers in Kulgam. She highlighted that these individuals work hard away from home to support their families, making such acts of violence unimaginably cruel.
The attack occurred in the Kulgam district, where terrorists opened fire on the two laborers working at a brick kiln in the village of Kelam during the evening.
An official reported that both were immediately transported to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Anantnag for advanced treatment. However, despite the doctors’ best efforts, the two injured laborers, identified as Deepak from Chhattisgarh and Bhupinder from Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to their serious injuries.
Authorities have confirmed that security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate the attackers. This incident comes amid heightened anti-terrorism operations in the Kashmir Valley in response to recent acts of terrorist violence. Just last week, terrorists killed Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi.
