Jagan Mohan Reddy Declares Next Election Will Focus on Mavigun vs Amaravati

Amaravati, July 1: Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced on Wednesday that the upcoming state election will revolve around the issue of ‘Mavigun vs Amaravati.’

He clarified that the YSRCP supports Mavigun and will make it a key electoral issue, incorporating it into their manifesto. Mavigun is a proposed state capital corridor that includes Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur.

Reddy stated, “The next election will be between Mavigun and Amaravati. We stand with Mavigun. Those in favor of Mavigun will vote for YSRCP, while those supporting Amaravati will vote for Chandrababu.”

He opposed the designation of Amaravati as the state capital, claiming significant corruption has occurred there. “There is rampant corruption in the name of Amaravati, and we are completely against it. Mavigun is the right answer. Contractors are being paid exorbitant rates under the guise of Amaravati, while Mavigun offers natural advantages and existing infrastructure,” he added.

Reddy accused leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of inciting issues related to caste and religion, while Chandrababu Naidu remains silent on these matters. He urged the TDP to clarify its stance on the issue.

He emphasized that a person’s social status does not change with a change of religion, reiterating that his party has previously expressed its position on this matter in the Assembly.

The former Chief Minister also questioned the law and order situation in the state, alleging that the government is using police for political vendettas. “False cases are being filed against those who question the government, leading to their imprisonment,” he stated.

He referenced the alleged custodial death of Sai Krishna, claiming attempts were made to suppress the case for an extended period.

Reddy criticized the government on agricultural issues, stating that farmers are facing numerous challenges while previous YSRCP government schemes are being dismantled.
