New Delhi, August 14: The first Test match of the two-match series between India and Sri Lanka is set to take place this Saturday at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. Ravindra Jadeja has a golden opportunity to achieve a significant milestone in this match.
Jadeja is just two wickets away from reaching 350 wickets in Test cricket. So far, he has taken 348 wickets in 89 Test matches across 167 innings. If he manages to take two wickets in the first Test, he will become only the fifth Indian bowler to achieve this feat. Additionally, Jadeja has scored 4,095 runs in his Test career. He is among only four players worldwide who have scored over 4,000 runs and taken 300 wickets in Test cricket.
Should Jadeja succeed in taking two wickets in the Galle Test, he will become the second Indian player, after Kapil Dev, to complete 4,000 runs and 350 wickets in the longest format of the game. Kapil Dev, who led India to its first World Cup victory, is currently the only Indian cricketer to have achieved this milestone. Furthermore, Jadeja will be the first spin-bowling all-rounder to reach this significant achievement.
In the warm-up match, Jadeja showcased his skills with both bat and ball. He played a crucial innings of 63 runs in the first innings and took a total of four wickets. Given the spin-friendly pitches in Sri Lanka, Jadeja’s role is considered vital. He is one of the few players who has previously toured Sri Lanka.
To date, India and Sri Lanka have played a total of 46 Test matches, with India winning 22 of them. Sri Lanka has managed to win only 7 matches, while 22 Tests have ended in a draw. The last encounter between the two teams occurred in 2022, where under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India won the series 2-0.
