Mumbai, June 2: Bollywood’s showman, Raj Kapoor, known for iconic films like ‘Awara’, ‘Barsaat’, ‘Shree 420’, and ‘Sangam’, is remembered today on his death anniversary. Actor Jackie Shroff took to social media to honor his legacy.
Shroff shared a nostalgic image of a young Raj Kapoor dressed in a stylish suit with a patterned tie on his Instagram Stories. He captioned the post, “Remembering Raj Kapoor Ji with love on his death anniversary.”
Raj Kapoor, often referred to as the ‘Indian Charlie Chaplin’, made significant contributions as an actor, director, and producer in Indian cinema. He was the eldest son of legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor and played a pivotal role in continuing the Kapoor family’s rich artistic heritage, becoming one of the most influential figures in the history of Indian cinema.
His journey in the film industry began as a clapper boy, eventually leading him to become a remarkable actor, director, and producer. His first major role was in the 1947 film ‘Neel Kamal’, alongside Madhubala.
At just 24, he established his own studio, R.K. Films. His directorial debut came in 1948 with the film ‘Aag’, but it was the 1951 film ‘Awara’ that brought him international acclaim. His early works reflected Nehruvian socialism and the struggles of the common man.
Raj Kapoor directed and produced timeless classics such as ‘Barsaat’, ‘Shree 420’, ‘Jagte Raho’, and ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai’. His most ambitious and autobiographical film, ‘Mera Naam Joker’, remains one of his most celebrated works.
