Iyer Acknowledges Bowling Excellence Amid Batting Struggles in T20 Series Loss

Belfast, June 29: India faced a disappointing 0-2 defeat in the T20 series against Ireland. After losing his first series as captain, Shreyas Iyer admitted that Ireland outperformed his team in adapting to the conditions. He praised the host team’s professional approach and their clear understanding of how to play according to the circumstances.

In the match held at the Civil Cricket Club, Ireland batted first, scoring 154 runs while losing 8 wickets. In response, India could only manage 153 runs for 9 wickets, resulting in a narrow 1-run victory for the hosts, marking their first T20 series win against India.

Following the decisive loss, Iyer stated during the presentation ceremony, “I believe our bowlers performed exceptionally well, but our batting was a bit weak. We struggled to understand the pitch behavior and convert singles into doubles. In that regard, they certainly left us behind.”

He continued, “This series didn’t go well for us, but we must commend Ireland for the way they played. They displayed professionalism and had a great understanding of the pitch, along with excellent fielding. Congratulations to them for a fantastic victory.”

Debutant fast bowler Prince Yadav, who took 3 wickets for 22 runs, and seam-bowling all-rounder Suryansh Shedge received praise from Iyer. He remarked, “Prince has good IPL experience and brought that rhythm here as well. He has his thoughts and plans when it comes to bowling. They will definitely learn from this experience.”

After the series loss to Ireland, India will now face England in a five-match T20 series starting July 1. The first match will take place in Durham, followed by games in Manchester at Old Trafford (July 4), Nottingham at Trent Bridge (July 7), Bristol at Seat Unique Stadium (July 9), and Southampton at The Rose Bowl (July 11).
