Jay Moondra Reflects on Historic Victory After Irelands First T20 Series Win Against India

Belfast, June 28: Jay Moondra, the left-arm fast bowler from Ireland, was named ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Series’ in the final T20 match against India. Born in India, Moondra took 2 wickets for 25 runs in the first match and followed up with 3 wickets for 32 runs in the next. This victory marks Ireland’s first T20 series win against India, and Moondra described his debut experience in international cricket as ‘fantastic.’

During the match at the Civil Service Cricket Club, Moondra played a crucial role in chasing down a target of 155 runs. He dismissed Sanju Samson LBW and also sent Abhishek Sharma and Shreyas Iyer back to the pavilion. With a total of three wickets, Ireland secured a memorable win by just one run.

In the post-match presentation ceremony, Moondra expressed, “I am still trying to grasp this feeling. It’s hard to put into words. Playing against top players and testing myself is an incredible experience. The plan was to stick to the basics for a long time. Credit goes to the team members and management for keeping things simple. Tough times will come, but we must remain calm and focused on our work. I am still trying to understand it all.”

Reflecting on his mindset while bowling to Samson, Moondra said, “Just keep it simple, do what you’ve been doing. It’s going to be tough, and there’s little room for error. So just stick to your plan.”

Discussing the challenges he faced while establishing himself in the team since moving to Ireland in 2021, Moondra remarked, “Well, everyone faces ups and downs in life, so you just have to stay determined and keep moving forward. That’s all.”

He also praised the atmosphere within the Ireland camp, stating, “They made me feel like one of them, nothing different. Playing has been fantastic, with a great environment and good people. So I’m just doing what they’ve assigned me.”
