Los Angeles, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Isaiah Washington, known for his role in the hit series “Grey’s Anatomy,” has spoken publicly about the death of his wife, Jenisa Garland, for the first time since her passing 16 months ago. The actor shared his feelings and experiences related to her loss in a recent Instagram post.
In his message, the 63-year-old revealed that Garland died from a “devastating hemorrhagic stroke” on June 9, 2025. He recounted how his beloved wife, his partner for 29 years, suddenly collapsed on May 31, 2025. “This event was a huge shock for her and our entire family,” he wrote. “She suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and never recovered. It has been 16 months since she left us, but she left behind three wonderful children to carry on her legacy.”
Washington emphasized the importance of not dismissing headaches, stating, “Listen, friends… headaches are not always just headaches or migraines; they can be far more serious and serve as a warning sign. If possible, get a brain scan and do not take headaches lightly.”
He described his wife as a very private person and acknowledged that sharing details about her death publicly might earn him a reprimand from her in the afterlife. His emotional post drew condolences from friends and fans alike, with Viola Davis commenting, “I’m so sorry, Isaiah.”
Washington was an original cast member of “Grey’s Anatomy” since 2005 but left the show in 2007 after making a homophobic remark directed at co-star T.R. Knight. He later apologized and returned to the series for a brief period in 2014. In March 2023, Washington announced his retirement from acting.
