Bengaluru : Irom Chanu Sharmila, popularly referred as Iron Lady of India gave birth to two female twin babies here in a private hospital on Sunday which also happened to be a ‘Mothers’ Day’.
According to the hospital sources both, mother and the two newborn babies are doing well. The 47 years old civil rights activist has shifted to the city along with her British husband Desmond Coutinho after she became pregnant. The twins Nix Shakhi and Autumn Tara were born with a gap of one minute in between and both of them weighed 2.16 and 2.14 kgs respectively.
The hospital sources clarified that the deliveries on ‘Mothers Day’ were only coincidental and C-section deliveries were not planned for the day. It may be recalled here that Irom Sharmila was on fast for 16 years demanding the withdrawal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act(AFSPA). She called off her indefinite fast and married her longtime boyfriend and UK citizen as per the norms of special marriage act.
