New Delhi, February 16: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Geneva for the second round of discussions between the United States and Iran. Upon his arrival, Araghchi met with Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Grossi himself shared details of the meeting.

In a post, Grossi stated, “I just had an in-depth technical discussion with Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi in preparation for the crucial talks in Geneva.”

Before the meeting, Araghchi tweeted, “I will meet Rafael Grossi for a deep technical discussion with nuclear experts on Monday. On Tuesday, I will also meet with Badr Albusaydi before engaging in diplomacy with the US. I am here in Geneva with real ideas for a fair and equal deal.”

The IAEA has been urging Iran for months to clarify the status of its stockpile of 440 kilograms (970 pounds) of highly enriched uranium, which was affected by Israeli-American attacks in June. The agency seeks to resume inspections fully, including at three specific sites that were bombed: Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi has emphasized that the US must demonstrate seriousness in reaching an agreement with Tehran. He warned that war would be detrimental for all parties involved.

In an interview, Takht-Ravanchi noted that recent contacts between Iran and the US, including indirect talks in Oman, indicate that the US is attempting to resolve issues peacefully. He stated, “The ball is now in the US court to prove that it wants to reach an agreement. If the US is sincere, I am confident we will be on the path to a deal.”

The White House confirmed on Saturday that Washington has sent Middle East envoy Steve Vitkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner to facilitate discussions. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that President Trump prefers dialogue, but all options remain open.

Iran claims its nuclear program is peaceful, enriching uranium to 60% purity, which is dangerously close to weapons-grade levels. The Trump administration has firmly stated that Iran must not be allowed to enrich uranium under any circumstances.

On Friday, President Trump announced that the world’s largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, is being deployed from the Caribbean to the Middle East. Trump has consistently stated that a change of power in Iran would be the best outcome.
