Irans Foreign Minister Claims US Actions Render April Ceasefire Ineffective

Tehran, June 12: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, stated on Thursday that recent US attacks have undermined the ceasefire established in April between the two nations.

In a phone conversation with the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, Zarif condemned the recent US military actions, labeling them a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law.

According to Xinhua, he also asserted that the US is responsible for the dangerous consequences of its attacks.

The US Central Command announced on Thursday morning that its forces had conducted strikes on multiple Iranian positions in response to what they termed “unprovoked and persistent” Iranian assaults.

CENTCOM stated on X that its forces targeted Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems, and air defense sites across Iran. US Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy assets executed precise strikes on Iranian targets that posed threats to US forces and international commercial vessels in the region.

The statement continued, “These strikes were conducted in retaliation for Iran’s unprovoked and ongoing attacks. The US military remains vigilant, dangerous, and prepared.”

Following these attacks, Iran’s main military command, the Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, declared that the Strait of Hormuz was closed to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships.

Additionally, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had targeted US bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain in retaliation for the American strikes.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump threatened new military actions against Iran, suggesting that the US could eventually take control of Iran’s vital oil infrastructure. This statement came just hours after the US forces disabled a third commercial tanker accused of breaching Washington’s blockade against Tehran.

President Trump wrote on Truth Social, “The US will launch a very strong attack on Iran tonight.”
