Geneva, February 16: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has arrived in Geneva for the second round of talks with the United States. He announced his arrival through a social media post, asserting that he is there for a “fair and equal agreement.”

Upon reaching Geneva, Araqchi stated in an X post, “With nuclear experts, I will meet Rafael Grossi for in-depth technical discussions on Monday. Before the talks with the U.S. on Tuesday, I will also meet with Badr Al-Busaidi, the Foreign Minister of Oman. I am in Geneva with genuine ideas to achieve a fair and equal agreement. What is not on the table: yielding to threats.”

Earlier, Iran’s national broadcasting agency, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), reported via its Telegram channel that Araqchi arrived late Sunday night (local time) with senior diplomats and a distinguished delegation.

According to the plan, the second round of indirect talks between Iran and the U.S. will take place on Tuesday, with Oman once again playing a mediating role. The first round occurred last week in Muscat, which both sides described as a “good start.”

During this visit, top officials are expected to meet with their Swiss and Omani counterparts, as well as the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency and several other international officials present in Switzerland.

Araqchi also plans to address the United Nations disarmament conference in Geneva.

Tensions escalated after Israel and the U.S. targeted Iranian nuclear sites in June, claiming significant damage was inflicted. Following months of heightened tensions, Tehran and Washington resumed talks in February.

The White House confirmed on Saturday that Washington has sent Middle East envoy Steve Vitkoff and President Donald Trump‘s son-in-law Jared Kushner for negotiations. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that President Trump prefers dialogue, but all options remain on the table.

Iran claims its nuclear program is peaceful, currently enriching uranium to 60% purity, which is dangerously close to weapons-grade levels. The Trump administration has firmly stated that Iran must not be allowed to enrich uranium under any circumstances.

On Friday, President Trump announced that the world’s largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, is being deployed from the Caribbean to the Middle East. Trump has consistently stated that a change of power in Iran would be the best outcome.
