Tehran, February 14: A senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has stated that negotiations between Iran and the United States could progress positively, provided they are based on reality and do not include excessive demands.
Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, made these remarks during an interview with Qatar’s Al Jazeera, published on Friday. His comments come as indirect talks on the nuclear issue between Iran and the U.S. have resumed, with the first round taking place on February 6 in Oman, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Shamkhani emphasized that avoiding actions that undermine stability and security in the Middle East is a wise approach for all parties involved. He noted that the goal of diplomatic efforts in the region is to reduce tensions and strengthen political solutions.
He clearly stated that Iran’s missile program is a “red line” for the country, and there will be no negotiations on this matter. Furthermore, he warned that any aggressive actions against Iran would be met with a “firm, decisive, and appropriate” response.
Shamkhani also asserted that Israel cannot attack Iran without U.S. support, stressing that Iran’s military preparedness is at a high level. He cautioned that any country making a miscalculation would face severe consequences.
His statement comes amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, alongside an increase in U.S. military deployments in the region, although diplomatic efforts continue.
Earlier on Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Iran would not yield to “excessive demands” regarding its nuclear program. He also mentioned that Iran is prepared for any inspections of its nuclear activities, asserting that its goal is not to develop nuclear weapons.
