Iran Denies Claims of $2 Million Charges for Ships Passing Through Hormuz Strait

New Delhi, March 23: The Iranian embassy in India has taken a firm stance against claims that ships passing through the Hormuz Strait are being charged $2 million. In an official statement, the embassy declared that such allegations are completely false, misleading, and baseless, with no connection to reality.

The embassy clarified that these statements may reflect the personal views of certain individuals but should not be interpreted as the official policy or stance of the Iranian government. The statement emphasized that Iran has not announced any policy regarding international maritime routes that involves such exorbitant fees for ships.

In fact, amid ongoing conflict and uncertainty in the region, various unverified reports and claims have emerged, many of which are being widely circulated without official confirmation. The Iranian embassy rejected these claims, stating that the country’s official position should only be understood based on official sources, not personal statements or rumors.

The statement released in an ex-post format read, “Such news is entirely unfounded and has no relation to Iran’s official policy. These claims represent the personal opinions of certain individuals and do not reflect the official stance of the Iranian government.”

Throughout this situation, Iran has also indicated that the Hormuz Strait remains open for international navigation. However, due to current geopolitical conditions, a different approach may be adopted concerning certain countries.

On Monday, two large gas tankers flying the Indian flag were tracked crossing the Hormuz Strait. According to ship-tracking data, the tankers, named Jag Vasant and Pine Gas, were seen departing the UAE and passing near the Iranian coast in the afternoon (local time).
