Guwahati, March 25: The Election Commission of India held an online review and training session on Wednesday for district election officers, police superintendents, police commissioners, and other relevant officials in Assam. This session was organized in preparation for the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for April 9 in the state.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated during his review visit to Assam on February 18 that this election will be conducted in a completely violence-free, fear-free, and temptation-free manner. The goal is to ensure that every voter can cast their vote in a festive atmosphere, without fear or bias. Senior officials from the commission reviewed the preparations of the district administration and law enforcement agencies in this regard.
During the session, senior officials conducted a detailed review of all aspects of the election plan. This included ensuring minimum essential facilities (AMEF) at all polling stations, management of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), logistics, training of election staff, seizure and law enforcement preparations, as well as voter awareness and outreach activities. It was also emphasized that presiding officers should share signed copies of Form 17C with polling agents and update voter turnout data on the ECI-NET app every two hours and after voting concludes.
District election officers were instructed to distribute voter information slips (VIS) to all voters at least five days before the election and to provide a voter guide to every household. Braille-enabled VIS will also be issued for visually impaired voters.
Additionally, DEOs were directed to ensure that requests for election-related permissions made by candidates and political parties through the ECI-NET ‘facilitation’ module are processed within 24 hours on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring complete fairness.
Given the situation at several polling stations, especially in riverbank areas, special attention was paid to the arrangement of adequate security equipment and rescue measures. The commission made it clear that all officials must work diligently to ensure the fairness, transparency, and security of this election.
