
Tehran, May 29: Iran activated its air defense systems in the southern province of Bushehr on Thursday night. According to Iranian media, a US drone that had intruded into Iranian airspace was shot down.
A military source cited by the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Iran’s air defense system intercepted the drone near Bushehr using missile fire.
Fars news agency indicated that the Iranian military launched missiles at certain targets from the southern regions of the country. Local sources have also suggested the possibility of skirmishes in the Gulf area.
Mehr news agency reported that the Iranian military fired warning shots at four vessels near the Strait of Hormuz. These ships were attempting to cross the waterway without coordination with Iran.
Early Thursday, Iranian media reported three explosions in the eastern part of Bandar Abbas.
Subsequently, several US media reports stated that the US military conducted overnight strikes in Iran, targeting a military base identified by Washington as a threat to American troops and commercial vessels.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran announced that it retaliated against US attacks on Bandar Abbas by striking an American air base.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Iran demanded the release of its $24 billion in frozen funds during ongoing negotiations with the US. According to Tasnim, this demand arose during discussions aimed at ending the conflict.
Iran, the US, and Israel agreed to a ceasefire on April 8 after 40 days of fighting. Peace talks between Iranian and American delegations took place in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, but no agreement was reached.
In recent weeks, both sides have exchanged several proposals regarding the terms for ending the conflict, mediated by Pakistan.
