New Delhi, July 19: The Iranian military has asserted that it conducted significant drone attacks on two major US military bases in Kuwait as part of Operation ‘Sakeh’ (Lightning). According to Iranian officials, these strikes were a response to repeated lethal attacks from the United States.
As reported by Iran’s semi-official news agency, Fars News, the Iranian military announced that it targeted the US bases during the 16th phase of Operation ‘Sakeh’. The military stated that it launched extensive drone strikes against American installations. They emphasized that these actions were a strong retaliation against ongoing assaults from the US.
The Iranian military claimed that the strikes specifically targeted the munitions depot at Camp Udairi. Additionally, they attacked the Patriot missile defense radar system and an aerial surveillance radar at Ali Al Salem Airbase.
According to the Iranian military, these actions were taken in response to continuous attacks by the US, which they allege resulted in civilian casualties and damage to bridges, infrastructure, and other non-military sites.
Camp Udairi, located approximately 104 kilometers from Iran’s border, serves as a key logistics and force support center for the US military. Meanwhile, Ali Al Salem Airbase is considered a crucial airlift hub for American aircraft and one of the main entry points for US troops in the Middle East.
Earlier on Sunday morning, the US launched a projectile attack on the site of the Darkhovin Nuclear Power Plant under construction in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province.
According to the Xinhua news agency, the AEOI (Atomic Energy Organization of Iran) stated on its official website that the attack occurred at 3:39 AM local time (24:09 GMT). The organization condemned the strike as an aggressive and brutal act, claiming it violated Iran’s national sovereignty and international law, although it did not specify any casualties or damage resulting from the attack.
