Guwahati, March 31: Rajasthan Royals (RR) kicked off their IPL 2026 campaign with a stunning victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a pivotal role in this impressive win. He scored a rapid-fire half-century, amassing 52 runs off just 17 balls. After the match, Vaibhav discussed his innings and the partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi stated, “Our plan today was to perform well during the powerplay. Initially, the wicket seemed a bit sticky, but as the ball got older, it started coming onto the bat nicely.”
Regarding his aggressive batting style, Vaibhav mentioned, “I do think about defense, but our strategy was to control the game during the powerplay. This phase is crucial when chasing smaller targets. If the bowling team performs well here, the game can tilt in their favor, but our powerplay was excellent.”
The explosive left-handed batsman added, “The coaches advised me to stick to my natural game and adapt to the conditions. My opening partner (Jaiswal) communicates with me after every ball, guiding me on when to take singles. He keeps giving me the strike and encourages me to play my shots when the ball is coming well off the bat.”
In terms of match performance, CSK, batting first after losing the toss, was restricted to 127 runs in 19.4 overs. RR chased down the target, scoring 128 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in 12.1 overs, winning the match by 8 wickets. RR’s fast bowler Nandre Burger was named Player of the Match, taking 2 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs, dismissing Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre.
