Delhi Police Arrest Notorious Criminal with Illegal Firearm

New Delhi, April 2: The Anti Snatching and Burglary (ASB) Cell of the Delhi Police is actively combating criminals involved in the possession and use of illegal firearms. Recently, the ASB Cell apprehended a notorious criminal while he was armed. Authorities state that this arrest has helped prevent potential criminal activities and enhanced public safety in the district.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajiv Kumar, the ASB Cell was tasked with identifying and arresting active criminals in response to a rise in incidents involving illegal weapons in the eastern district. A team was formed under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Ajay Tomar, head of the ASB Cell for the eastern region.

The team conducted undercover operations in sensitive areas, gathering intelligence on criminal activities. Local informants were activated to monitor the movements of suspects. On March 31, reliable information indicated that a dangerous criminal was approaching the area near Khelgaon Road with an illegal weapon. Acting swiftly, the team set up a trap near the iron bridge. Around 6:00 PM, the suspect was identified and arrested. He was identified as Arjun, also known as Sonu, a resident of Trilokpuri, Delhi. During the search, police recovered an illegal country-made pistol and a live cartridge from his possession.

Subsequently, a case was registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Mandawali police station, and an investigation commenced. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had been released on bail from Mandoli Jail in December 2025 and had obtained the weapon from an acquaintance. Police are working to identify and arrest the individual who provided the weapon, as well as to uncover a broader network. Arjun, a habitual offender with a fifth-grade education, has been implicated in 15 previous criminal cases.
