
New Delhi, April 2: Fast bowler Mohammad Shami has made history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by becoming the only bowler to take a wicket on the first ball of an innings five times.
In this elite group, players like Praveen Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Trent Boult, Lasith Malinga, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashok Dinda, and Pat Cummins share the second spot, each achieving this feat three times.
During a recent match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batted first after losing the toss. They were bowled out for just 141 runs in 18.4 overs. The team faced an early setback when captain Rishabh Pant was dismissed for 7 runs, leaving the score at 19.
Mitchell Marsh then partnered with Aiden Markram to add 29 runs for the second wicket. Marsh scored 35 runs off 28 balls, hitting three sixes and two fours before returning to the pavilion. The team struggled, losing five wickets for just 71 runs.
Abdul Samad and Mukul Chaudhary managed to stabilize the innings, adding 34 runs for the sixth wicket, while Samad and Shahbaz Ahmed contributed 33 runs for the seventh wicket, helping the team reach a respectable total. Chasing a target of 142 runs, the Delhi Capitals lost their first wicket on the very first ball, with KL Rahul dismissed for a duck, caught out by Mohsin Khan off Shami’s bowling. The team then lost four wickets for just 26 runs but was stabilized by Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs.
As of the latest update, the Delhi Capitals had scored 83 runs for the loss of four wickets in 11 overs, needing 59 runs off 54 balls to secure victory.
