IPL 2026: Vaibhav Suryavanshi Falls Short of Record Century as RR Sets 244-Run Target for SRH

New Chandigarh, May 27: The IPL 2026 Eliminator match is underway between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. After losing the toss, RR opted to bat first, scoring 243 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs, thanks to an explosive innings of 97 runs by Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Suryavanshi opened the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. While Jaiswal played a steady role, Suryavanshi’s bat was on fire. He narrowly missed out on setting the record for the fastest century in IPL history.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 97 runs off just 29 balls, hitting 12 sixes and 5 fours. His innings ended when a catch was taken by Shreyas Iyer at third man. Had that ball crossed the boundary, Suryavanshi would have claimed the record for the fastest century in IPL history, currently held by Chris Gayle, who scored a century in just 30 balls in 2013.

Despite missing the century, Suryavanshi broke Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single season. With this performance, he has now hit 65 sixes in IPL 2026, surpassing Gayle’s 59 sixes in IPL 2012.

Suryavanshi was dismissed as the first wicket at a score of 125 runs after 8 overs. Shortly after, Jaiswal was also out at a score of 137, contributing 29 runs off 29 balls.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel came in at number three and also made a significant contribution, scoring a half-century. Jurel hit 50 runs off 21 balls, including 3 sixes and 5 fours, before being dismissed. Captain Riyan Parag added 26 runs off 12 balls.

After the dismissals of Suryavanshi, Jurel, and Parag, SRH made a comeback, restricting RR to 243 runs when a score of at least 275 seemed possible. RR’s middle and lower order batting struggled significantly.

In the final 5 overs, RR managed to score only 36 runs. Saqib Hussain conceded just 5 runs in the last over.

For SRH, captain Pat Cummins had a tough outing with the ball, conceding 64 runs in 4 overs without taking a wicket, including three consecutive sixes from Suryavanshi. Prabhul Hinge took 3 wickets for 54 runs in 4 overs. Shivang Kumar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Ishan Malinga each claimed 1 wicket.
