New Delhi, August 25: Renowned kabaddi player Ashu Malik expressed his joy upon being selected for the Indian team. Out of the 12 players chosen for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, nine hail from the Kabaddi Champions League (KCL). This achievement has been celebrated by KCL.
Representing the Hisar Heroes in KCL, Malik expressed gratitude for the opportunities that shaped his career. These moments have prepared him for the international stage.
He stated, “Wearing the India jersey is a feeling that cannot be expressed in words. I am thankful for the opportunities that have defined my journey, and I will give my all for India.”
The strong representation from KCL highlights the league’s significant role in creating competitive pathways for Indian kabaddi players. The national team features players like Sunil Malik from Karnal Kings, Ayaan Lauchab from Sonipat Stars, Devank Dalal from Bhiwani Bulls, Rahul Setpal from Gurugram Guruj, Jaydeep Dahiya from Faridabad Fighters, and Ankit Jaglan from Panipat Panthers.
What began as a domestic franchise journey has now reached the international level.
Sunil Malik described this opportunity as the greatest honor of his life, noting that his experience in KCL has boosted his confidence. “Playing for India is the highest honor. I am proud to carry KCL’s legacy to the international stage. I will give my best for the tricolor,” he said.
Ayaan Lauchab referred to his selection as a dream come true, emphasizing KCL’s crucial role in his development as a player. “Representing India at the Asian Games feels like a dream come true. KCL provided me with an essential platform to grow as an athlete. I am determined to make my country and KCL proud,” he remarked.
Devank Dalal shared, “This is a very special moment for me and my family. Representing India at the Asian Games is every athlete’s dream. I will give my all on the mat and strive to bring glory to my country.”
Rahul Setpal described the Asian Games as a significant platform, attributing his growth as a player to his experiences in KCL. “The Asian Games is a huge platform, and I feel honored to be part of Team India. My KCL experience has helped me progress, and I am excited to give my best for the country,” he stated.
Jaydeep Dahiya noted, “The journey from KCL to representing India has been very special. I take pride in where this journey has led me, and I will work hard to make the entire KCL family and India proud.”
Jaglan added, “Representing India is a moment of pride for every athlete. I am excited about the upcoming challenges and will give my best every time I step onto the mat.”
Having nine players from KCL in the 12-member Indian team is a significant achievement for the league and its franchise partners. The chairman of the Kabaddi Champions League and Dronacharya Award winner Balwan Singh serves as the head coach of the Indian team.
