IPL 2026: Vaibhav Arora Optimistic About Enhancing Skills with Tim Southee

Kolkata, March 17: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is set to kick off on March 28. Fast bowler Vaibhav Arora is part of the three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), focusing on improving his game and honing his skills ahead of the new season’s challenges.

The 28-year-old player from Ambala made his debut for the franchise in 2023. So far, Arora has taken 36 wickets in 32 matches during his IPL career. He played a crucial role in KKR’s title victory in IPL 2024, claiming 11 wickets in 10 matches that season.

As the team prepares for the upcoming season, Arora is putting in hard work during the training camp, concentrating on enhancing various aspects of his bowling. He stated, “Overall, our preparation is strong. We are playing practice matches and refining different bowling techniques in the nets. As a fast bowler, you always want to prepare well and improve your skills to use them effectively during matches.”

Arora is particularly excited about the opportunity to work closely with his former teammate Tim Southee, who has joined the franchise as a bowling coach this season. The former New Zealand captain brings a wealth of experience, having taken over 700 international wickets. Southee represented KKR for three seasons from 2021 to 2023.

Reflecting on the chance to learn from Southee, Arora said, “Tim Southee is a legendary player with vast experience. We played together at KKR in 2023, and I learned a lot from him then. Now that he is our bowling coach, I will have more time to work with him and improve my skills through his insights. I can learn a lot from him, and it will be enjoyable to work together.”

Known for his ability with the new ball, Arora aims to expand his game and adapt to the conditions he may face this season. He explained, “As you may have seen last year at Eden Gardens, the new ball swings only for the first three or four overs at most. After that, due to the conditions and the nature of the pitch, there is little swing left. Therefore, having variety in bowling becomes crucial in such situations.”
