Jaipur, June 22: A high-level investigation has been ordered following a health crisis involving eight women at the Paota District Hospital in Jodhpur after cesarean deliveries. This incident has raised concerns about health standards and attracted criticism from opposition parties.
The situation unfolded on June 20, when the eight women experienced severe health issues immediately after their surgeries. According to officials, their conditions deteriorated rapidly post-delivery, necessitating urgent medical intervention.
Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot expressed his concern over the incident and criticized the BJP-led state government for the poor state of Rajasthan’s healthcare system.
In a post on the social media platform X, Pilot described the reports of the women’s serious health complications as deeply distressing and alarming. He accused the state government of failing to manage healthcare services effectively, citing similar incidents in Kota and Bikaner, where women faced kidney failure post-delivery, with some even losing their lives.
Pilot stated that medical and health services in the state have been deteriorating under the BJP government. He highlighted the dire conditions of government hospitals, asserting that ordinary citizens are losing their lives due to inadequate care.
He called for a thorough investigation into the matter, accountability for any negligence found during the inquiry, adequate financial assistance for the affected families, and improved medical treatment for the women involved.
Meanwhile, Jodhpur District Collector Alok Ranjan inspected the Paota District Hospital and reviewed the medical arrangements. He instructed officials to ensure that there is no negligence in patient care and that all necessary medical facilities are provided on a priority basis.
Dr. B.S. Jodha, Principal of S.N. Medical College, reported that the affected women are under intensive medical monitoring. He noted that surgeries were performed on Saturday, after which several patients exhibited unusually high temperatures.
According to Dr. Jodha, two women developed serious complications; one experienced high blood pressure, while another suffered excessive bleeding during surgery.
All procedures in the gynecology operating theater have been halted pending the investigation report. Initial findings have not indicated any evidence of staff negligence. However, officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and further actions will be based on the final report.
