Murshidabad, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : In Murshidabad, West Bengal, railway officials announced that repairs on the New Farakka Line, which were disrupted by a landslide, have been completed as of Saturday morning. Testing of the railway tracks has commenced immediately following the repairs.
Train services connecting South Bengal to North Bengal faced significant interruptions over the past few days due to the landslide. Emergency repair work was initiated on Thursday; however, persistent rainfall in the area hampered progress, leaving the soil at the repair site unstable and waterlogged. After the rain subsided on Friday night, conditions improved, allowing the repair efforts to accelerate.
With the completion of the repairs and the initiation of test runs, railway officials are optimistic that regular train operations will resume by Saturday evening. This development brings relief not only to railway authorities but also to passengers whose travel between South and North Bengal has been severely affected.
Numerous trains connecting these regions were canceled, and some routes were altered. Railway officials clarified on Saturday morning that normal services would only be restored once all repairs were fully completed and test runs were conducted successfully.
The teams working around the clock expressed their relief after a successful test operation on Saturday morning. The railway staff, who had been engaged in repair work since Thursday, celebrated the achievement with chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”
Officials reiterated their expectation that normal services on the New Farakka Line would be reinstated by Saturday evening. The disruptions have also led to a surge in demand for private bus services between Kolkata and Siliguri, with fares rising sharply from around ₹1,500 to between ₹5,000 and ₹6,000 in recent days.
