Investigation Launched into Attack on RSS Office in Ranchi; Three Arrested

Ranchi, June 18: The investigation into the petrol bomb attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district has been handed over to the Jharkhand Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the incident.

One of the accused had escaped from police custody on Thursday but was later shot during an encounter in the Mandar area while attempting to evade capture.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan announced at a press conference on Thursday night that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed under various sections, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act, following the petrol bomb incident on the night of June 16.

To facilitate the investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the joint leadership of the urban and rural police superintendents. The police identified the suspects based on CCTV footage and technical evidence.

During the raids, two individuals, Saif Ansari and Aman Ansari alias Golu, who were attempting to flee to another state, were arrested near the Ghandi railway station in Koderma district with the help of Bokaro and Koderma police. Following their leads, a third suspect, Sayam Sujan, was also apprehended. All three are residents of Lohardaga in Jharkhand.

According to police, the suspects have confessed their involvement in the incident during interrogation. Clothes worn at the time of the attack have been recovered, along with a car and four mobile phones.

The SSP mentioned that the initial investigation and questioning do not rule out the possibility of the suspects being linked to an international module. Due to the seriousness of the case, a request was made for the ATS to take over the investigation, which has now been approved.

Meanwhile, Saif Ansari, who was arrested on Thursday, managed to escape from police custody by breaking a ventilation grill and a mirror in the toilet at the Kotwali police station. An alert was issued across the district following this incident.

Police later recaptured him during a vehicle check near Chama Mor in the Mandar police station area. The police claim that while being taken to the station, he attempted to snatch a weapon from an officer and flee again. In the ensuing police action, he was shot in the leg and has been hospitalized for treatment.
