New Delhi, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Navy is set to welcome the indigenous multi-role warship ‘Samarthak’ into its fleet on October 16. The induction ceremony will take place at the naval base in Karwar, Karnataka. This vessel is the first in a series of four multi-role ships being developed for the Navy.
Designed specifically for challenging maritime conditions, ‘Samarthak’ has been constructed in India and is equipped with indigenous sensors, modern weapons, and electronic systems. According to the Navy, all these systems are integrated into a unified combat framework to ensure their effective use during maritime operations.
The ship has been built by Larsen & Toubro Limited under the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. ‘Samarthak’ is not only intended for maritime surveillance and patrolling but is also capable of conducting various specialized missions. Its versatility allows it to play a crucial role in low-intensity maritime operations, target deployment, and testing. Additionally, it can serve as a primary platform for operating unmanned and autonomous systems.
The warship is also designed for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. In emergencies, it can be converted into a hospital ship with limited medical facilities. Furthermore, ‘Samarthak’ will assist in rescue missions at sea and in recovering sunken vessels or other objects, making it a valuable asset for the Navy.
Defense experts view the induction of ‘Samarthak’ as a significant step towards self-reliance in the defense sector. This domestically produced vessel will contribute to meeting the Indian Navy’s future operational requirements. The ship’s emblem features an elephant rising from ocean waves, symbolizing strength, intelligence, and agility. Its motto, “Vijayartham Ekanishtata,” translates to “Victory is our sole aim.”
