Beijing, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : China’s Foreign Ministry has voiced strong objections to India’s recent decision to standardize names for several locations in Ladakh. During a press briefing on October 13, spokesperson Mao Ning labeled the move as unilateral and entirely illegal.
According to the state-run Global Times, Mao emphasized that China does not recognize the establishment of Ladakh as a union territory by India. She reiterated that Beijing opposes India’s declaration of standard names for these locations, asserting that such actions do not alter territorial ownership.
Mao’s comments came in response to India’s Ministry of Home Affairs, which announced the naming of 28 sites on October 2, including geographical features, as part of an official map. The Indian government stated that this initiative aims to ensure accurate identification of these places and to raise public awareness about them.
Among the locations named are Atisha Giri, Brangsa, and Chapchingal Pass. The Ministry indicated that these names were established in consultation with the union territory of Ladakh.
Mao Ning firmly stated that China’s stance remains unchanged, insisting that the western part of the border has always been part of China. She described India’s actions as illegal and invalid, maintaining that they would not alter the reality of territorial claims.
The ongoing dispute over Ladakh continues to strain relations between the two nations, as both sides assert their historical claims to the region.
